Making Positivity Go Viral
Why are human beings so attracted to the negative? Why, when there are two options in front of us, one thing that could fulfill us and provide value to our lives and another that will stroke the flame of our favorite political issue despite putting out more hate into this world, do so many many of us choose the latter?
Dear friends,
Why are human beings so attracted to the negative?
Why, when there are two options in front of us, one thing that could fulfill us and provide value to our lives and another that will stroke the flame of our favorite political issue despite putting out more hate into this world, do so many many of us choose the latter?
I am guilty of this myself, I must admit, but it is disheartening to see how prevalent this issue is in our society, and how exacerbated it is online.
This week I got the most views on YouTube I have gotten so far. Over 21,000 people have watched my videos in the past seven days. That is incredible. I thought that when I reached this point I would be extremely grateful, and don’t get me wrong I am, but I am disappointed as well.
The videos that did so well were all clips from my episode with Rabbi Manis Friedman, where we talked about the role ancient wisdom and religion plays in the modern world. I disagreed with a lot of what Rabbi Friedman said. I am not a religious individual, and I knew that our opinions would differ greatly going into the conversation, however, that is fine. If anything, that is better. For around 150 random people on the internet who decided to comment, however, differing opinions are horrible.
I was appalled at how much attention my videos got for what seemed to be reasons of hatred. The hate from all angles— toward Semetics, toward Zionists, toward anti-zionists— was nothing short of extreme, and the division I saw is the exact opposite of the message I am trying to spread on my channel.
It is my goal to make positivity go viral.
I am done with the hyper-fixation on the worst parts of life that so many people transfer onto the internet and then into other people’s lives. If we want to be a better society, we need to focus our attention on things that provide value and lift us up, instead of putting other people down every chance we get.
There we go. That’s all I have to say today.
Here’s to making the world better.
